Still chipper

Something nice I've done for myself this week is to announce my 2 months of sobriety at a couple of other meetings since last Thursday. Lots of people do this throughout the week of their "birthday" so that the folks at each meeting have a chance to celebrate with them. But I was too shy when I got the 30-day chip to go for it more than once.

This time around, I decided I could use the extra warm fuzzies, which ensue in abundance (with applause!) whenever anybody gets a chip. So I spoke up yesterday and today and now have three 60-day chips. I hadn't consciously realized until tonight, though, that lengthening one's celebration isn't just about making oneself feel good. It's also about the other people in the meeting. Seeing someone get a chip is just plain awesome. It's inspiring, of course, but it also creates a sense of gratitude and fellowship. It connects us, all these sober drunks cheering for one another's milestones.

So...in taking care of myself I got a chance to give something back to the program. Pretty nifty, that.
